Pop the cherries out of their pits and break them in half. Toss them into a small pot with vanilla, water, and sugar. Fire up the stove to medium.

After smashing those cherries, let everything bubble together for another 10 minutes while it thickens up a bit.

Give the cherries a good mash once they've been heating for about 5 minutes. Use whatever tool gets the job done.

Move the pot off the burner. Leave it for 15 minutes so it cools. Pour it through a sieve into a jar to strain.

You can stick the syrup in the fridge to cool more or pour it over a glass of ice and splash in soda water. It'll stay good for a week if you chill it.
