Crispy Honey Garlic Tofu (Print Version)

Golden panko-crusted tofu cubes tossed in a sweet-savory honey garlic glaze, topped with green onions and sesame seeds.

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 (16 oz) package super firm or extra firm tofu
02 - 1/3 cup plain plant-based milk or regular milk
03 - 1/3 cup all-purpose flour or gluten-free all-purpose flour
04 - 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
05 - 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
06 - 1/2 teaspoon paprika
07 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
08 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
09 - 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
10 - Thinly sliced green onions (for garnish)
11 - Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
12 - Cooked rice (for serving)

→ Sauce

13 - 1/3 cup honey
14 - 1/3 cup water
15 - 1/4 cup tamari or soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
16 - 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
17 - 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
18 - 1–2 teaspoons chili garlic paste (optional)
19 - 2–3 large cloves garlic, finely minced
20 - 2 teaspoons cornstarch
21 - Pinch of salt

# Steps:

01 - Preheat the oven to 450°F and spray a large baking sheet with cooking spray. Set aside.
02 - In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, flour, and spices until a thick batter forms. Add tofu chunks and gently mix until fully coated.
03 - Pour the panko breadcrumbs over the tofu and carefully mix until fully coated. Press the panko onto the tofu as needed for full coverage.
04 - Spread the coated tofu evenly on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Spray the top with more cooking spray. Bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
05 - While the tofu bakes, combine all sauce ingredients in a medium bowl or jar and mix well. Heat a large pan over medium heat, pour in the sauce, and cook while stirring, until thickened and able to coat the back of a spoon, about 3–5 minutes.
06 - Add the crispy baked tofu to the pan with the sauce. Mix until the tofu is fully coated, then turn off the heat. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
07 - Serve the saucy tofu alongside rice or any grain of your choice with vegetables.

01 - To ensure maximum crispiness, press the tofu thoroughly before use to remove excess moisture.
