Scalloped Cabbage Ideas (Print Version)

Loads of cheese and a creamy sauce over soft cabbage, covered in crispy breadcrumbs. It’s oven-baked until bubbly and golden—perfect for relaxed veggie dinners.

# Ingredients:

→ Base

01 - 1 medium cabbage, chopped up

→ Cheese Sauce

02 - Salt, add as you like
03 - Ground black pepper, to your taste
04 - 1 cup of shredded cheese
05 - 2 cups full-fat milk
06 - 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
07 - 2 tablespoons butter, unsalted

→ Topping

08 - Half a cup breadcrumbs

# Steps:

01 - Pop your dish into the already hot oven. Let it bake about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the top is nice and golden.
02 - Drizzle all the cheese sauce over those cabbage pieces. Sprinkle on the breadcrumbs so everything gets covered.
03 - Spread the cabbage pieces out into your baking pan so they're nice and even.
04 - Keep whisking as you slowly add milk, and let things thicken up. Toss in the shredded cheese and let it melt fully. Hit it with a bit of salt and pepper to finish.
05 - On medium heat, melt your butter in a saucepan. Mix in your flour and keep it moving around for a minute or two.
06 - Crank the oven to 175°C (350°F) and get it heating.

# Notes:

01 - Fresh thyme or chives make this even better.
02 - This goes great on the side of some grilled or roasted meats.
03 - Leftovers keep up to three days if you seal 'em in the fridge.
