Set a large pot on medium heat and warm the olive oil. Throw in the onion and cook till you see it turn clear, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook it just a minute 'til you get the smell.

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes with juice, mix it up with the onion and garlic.

Add the vegetable broth and let it come to a soft simmer.

Put in the cannellini beans, dried thyme, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Give it a good stir.

Let everything cook gently for 15 to 20 minutes so the tastes mix well.

Take the pot off heat and stir in the Parmesan until it melts completely.

Right before serving, toss in the fresh basil for a burst of flavor.

If you want it spicier, sprinkle red pepper flakes on top however you like.
