Set your oven to 190°C so it’s ready for baking before you start making the dough.

Grab a medium bowl and stir flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until they’re nicely mixed.

In a big bowl, whisk softened butter and sugar with a mixer till it feels light and smooth.

Pour in the egg, vanilla, and almond extracts. Mix well until everything’s combined and smells great.

Slowly stir the dry mix into the wet one until you get a soft dough.

On a floured surface, roll the dough about 6 mm thick. Cut hearts with cookie cutters.

Put the cut dough hearts on baking sheets with 2.5 cm space between. Bake 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly browned.

Move cookies to a rack to cool off completely before adding royal icing and color the way you like.
