In a bowl, whisk together water, sesame oil, salt, rice flour, and five-spice powder until smooth and free of lumps.

Warm vegetable oil in a deep pan on medium heat until it hits about 180°C.

Pour small dollops of batter carefully into the hot oil. Fry each side 1 to 2 minutes until they’re crisp and golden brown.

Use a slotted spoon to lift the chips out and set them on paper towels to soak up extra oil.

Fry the rest of the batter in batches, making sure the oil stays hot enough each time.
