Butter Mints Classic (Print Version)

Creamy peppermint mints with a soft bite and gentle pastel colors. Great to share or bring to a celebration.

# Ingredients:

→ Dough

01 - Assorted food coloring
02 - 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
03 - 0.5 teaspoon peppermint extract, or any flavor you like
04 - 80 milliliters sweetened condensed milk
05 - 410 grams powdered sugar, and maybe a bit extra if you need it
06 - 60 grams unsalted butter, nice and soft

# Steps:

01 - Put those pieces on a lined sheet tray. Let them sit out uncovered for 24 hours to dry out. After they're set, pop them into an airtight jar in the fridge for weeks, or freeze for a couple of months.
02 - Break off about 30 grams of the colored dough and roll it into long ropes on your board. Then slice the ropes into small bites with a pizza wheel or a quick knife.
03 - Split the dough into 3 or 4 bits. Squirt in some food coloring and knead each one until the color’s mixed through—make it swirly or solid, however you like.
04 - Toss in the powdered sugar, drizzle the sweet condensed milk, pour in vanilla and peppermint. Keep mixing till the dough comes together and gets soft. If it feels sticky, just knead in some more powdered sugar, up to 30 grams extra.
05 - Whip that soft butter with a mixer in a big bowl for about 30-45 seconds until it’s smooth and fluffy.

# Notes:

01 - Slip on a pair of disposable gloves when kneading in the food coloring so your hands won’t get stained.
